Abstract

Abstract:

This study aims to analyze in depth the concepts of qoth'i (certain) and dzanni (presumptive) evidence in the primary sources of Islamic law, namely the Qur'an and the Sunnah. A proper understanding of the differences between these two types of evidence is crucial to avoid confusion in the interpretation and application of Islamic teachings, which can lead to differences in religious views and practices. The methodology used is a comprehensive literature study, by analyzing the texts of the Qur'an, prominent hadith books, and the works of classical and contemporary scholars on ushul fiqh and the science of tafsir. This study identifies the characteristics, sources, and implications of each type of evidence. The results show that qoth'i evidence has a high level of certainty, leaves no room for doubt, and generally comes from Qur'anic verses that are qoth'i in meaning and mutawatir hadiths. Meanwhile, the Dzanni argument is subject to different interpretations and originates from sources whose evidence requires ijtihad, such as the ahad hadith, qiyas, and non-mutawatir ijma'. The implications of this distinction are far-reaching, affecting how Muslims understand their creed, perform their worship, and regulate their transactions. Therefore, mastering this concept is a crucial foundation for every Muslim who wishes to understand their religion correctly and comprehensively.
