Abstract: The purpose of this study is to examine the legal consequences of the use of the words Amar (command) and Nahyi (prohibition) in Islamic legal sources, as well as their relationship to current legal issues. The approach used in this study is qualitative, with a literature study method involving the analysis of ushuliyah rules. The findings of this study indicate that every word Amar basically reflects an obligation (al-ashlu fi al-amri li al-wujub), while the word Nahyi describes a prohibition (al-ashlu fi al-nahyi li al-tahrim), unless there is other evidence that changes the meaning. A deep understanding of these two terms is very important for mujtahids in conducting istinbath of law, so that there are no errors in determining the legal status of an action in the present day.
